Fluid Power

Fluid power is a term describing hydraulics and pneumatics technologies. Both technologies use a fluid (liquid or gas) to transmit power from one location to another. With hydraulics, the fluid is a liquid (usually oil), whereas pneumatics uses a gas (usually compressed air).

Fluid power innovation is progressing at an astonishing rate and is at the heart of dramatic change. It is the technology of choice for dozens of industries and hundreds of applications. The marriage of fluid power with electronics has rekindled the fires of innovation in fluid power.

FLuid power has yielded products that are smarter, more powerful and more precise. Smart components can now “talk” to personal computers and programmable logic controllers through networks. Future directions of fluid power research will additionally focus on improving its reliability, building “smart” components and systems, and reducing its environmental impact.

Fluid power and the industries it serves will depend on a highly-educated workforce in the coming years. Investments in new fluid power education and training resources are occurring and our partners offer the best solutions for your program.
