SMC Corporation

Industrial Automation

SMC Corporation is a world leader in producing and supplying automation and pneumatic components with over 50 years’ experience, working in 75 countries.

Vast experience in the fields of industry and education led SMC to develop a wide range of products and services to meet the need for skills training in industrial automation. Taking INDUSTRY’s needs as the benchmark, SMC products target universities, career and technical training programs, and major companies that provide internal training for their employee’s professional development.

Due to the integration of classic technologies like mechanics and electricity with other more modern ones such as electronics, computer science, communications, etc., the automation of manufacturing and production processes is constantly evolving.

The integration of technologies as represented by the “Pyramid of Automation” below includes five technological levels which are considered in an industrial environment. The technologies interrelate, both within each level and between the different levels by using industrial communications.

SMC Automation Pyramid

  • The first level or “field level” comprises the physical devices existing in industry such as actuators and sensors.
  • The second level or “control level” includes logical devices such as PCs, PLCs, PIDs, etc.
  • The “supervisory level” (third level) corresponds to control and data acquisition systems (SCADA).
  • The manufacturing execution systems or MES are at a higher level or “planning level”.
  • The top of the pyramid (“management level”) is comprised of the company’s integrated management system (ERP).

SMC offers a complete solution with eLEARNING, Equipment and Certification.

eLEARNING:
To be able to develop different technology skills, theoretical knowledge must be acquired first. SMC International Training presents the eLEARNING-200 course program: the perfect complement to the didactic equipment.
eLEARNING-200 offers a total of 16 courses based on the automation pyramid, covering technologies in automated systems.

Automation Simulator:
Design and simulate pneumatics, hydraulic, electric and electronic circuits. The system allows the user to try programs on a virtual system before applying them to a physical system.

Training Equipment:
Modular and flexible systems built with industrial materials. Seventeen product families offering multiple possibilities and different configurations to develop skills in automated industrial automated technologies.

Certification:
Complete International Certification program based on the skills development associated with Automation technologies. SMC has structured a powerful program that provides international standard certification in automation/mechatronics.
